What a day of Sailing adventure, learning and teamwork ! 🌊⛵

Xavier's class recently embarked on an exciting sailing adventure across the harbour, supported by the wonderful team from Making Waves Foundation. Students had the unique opportunity to step aboard a sailing vessel, learn new skills, and experience the thrill of navigating the harbour from a completely different perspective.

Throughout the day, students developed confidence, resilience and teamwork as they worked together to assist with sailing activities, listen to instructions, and embrace new challenges. Every student discovered what it takes to sail on the water.

A huge thank you to Making Waves Foundation for providing such an incredible hands-on learning experience. Their commitment to empowering young people through sailing creates opportunities for personal growth, leadership and connection, leaving lasting memories for all involved.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the teachers and parent volunteers who supported the students throughout the excursion. Your encouragement, guidance and enthusiasm helped make the day a safe, enjoyable and successful experience for everyone involved.

The smiles, excitement and sense of achievement on display were a wonderful reminder that some of the best learning happens beyond the classroom walls. Well done to Xavier's class for embracing the adventure, stepping outside their comfort zones and making the most of this unforgettable opportunity! ⛵💙

Transitioning Towards Secondary School 🌟

As part of preparing our students for the exciting journey to secondary school, we have begun transitioning some students into new environments and experiences that help build confidence, independence, and resilience.

Recently, students had the opportunity to spend time at Eileen's Place, where they enjoyed exploring the space, engaging in activities, and building connections with peers and staff. The smiles, laughter, and enthusiasm on display were wonderful to see!

Starting the transition process early provides many benefits. It allows students to become familiar with new settings, develop important social and emotional skills, and feel more comfortable with upcoming changes. Early exposure helps reduce anxiety, increases confidence, and gives students the opportunity to build positive relationships before their next educational chapter begins.

Most importantly, it was a joyful experience. Students embraced the opportunity with excitement, curiosity, and a sense of adventure, making special memories while taking meaningful steps towards their future.

We look forward to supporting our students as they continue this important transition journey and celebrate their growth along the way. 💙✨

This week we were excited to begin our Basketball Club, led by Miss Georgia! 🏀

Throughout the session, the children were introduced to a variety of fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. They showed great enthusiasm as they practised their techniques and challenged themselves to learn new skills.

Basketball provides many benefits for children, helping to develop coordination, balance, fitness, concentration, and confidence. It also encourages communication, cooperation, and resilience as children learn to work together and support one another.

Most importantly, the children experienced the joy of playing together, celebrating successes, encouraging their peers, and having fun in an active and positive environment. We look forward to watching their skills and confidence continue to grow throughout the term! 🏀✨

Today's Travel Training Session, led by Desiree Gallimore, provided valuable information and practical strategies to support parents of children with disabilities in developing safe, independent travel skills.

Parents explored the importance of travel training in building confidence, independence, community participation, and life skills for children and young people with disabilities. The session covered key areas such as understanding public transport options, planning journeys, identifying potential risks, and teaching safe travel behaviours in real-world settings.

Desiree shared practical approaches for supporting children at their individual pace, highlighting the importance of gradual skill development, consistent practice, and fostering decision-making skills. Families were also introduced to resources and support services available to assist with travel training goals and promote greater independence in daily life.

Thank you to Desiree Gallimore for delivering an informative and engaging session, and to all the parents who attended and actively participated. Together, we can empower our children and young people to navigate their communities with greater confidence, independence, and success. 🚌🚆✨

Today, all staff across the College participated in comprehensive First Aid and CPR training, reinforcing our shared commitment to the safety, wellbeing, and care of every student in our community.

Regular First Aid and CPR training is an essential part of maintaining a safe learning environment. It ensures that all staff have the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a medical emergency. From recognising signs of distress to administering CPR and providing immediate first aid, these skills can make a significant difference when every second counts.

A sincere thank you to Alyssa from HERO HQ for delivering an engaging and informative training session. Through hands-on learning and practical scenarios, staff were able to refresh their knowledge, strengthen their emergency response skills, and stay up to date with current first aid practices.

We are proud of our staff's dedication to ongoing professional learning and their commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and prepared environment for all students and families.
